There’s nothing inherently wrong with being a “Never-Trumper”. Quite a few Republicans and conservatives I hold in high esteem just can’t bring themselves to fall in line with moral flaws they perceive in Donald Trump’s character. To the outside observer, our President is, at best, a misunderstood acquired taste, and at worst, a callous buffoon pushing our country closer to the edge of the cliff. But no matter your opinion of the man, true and intelligent conservatives can filter the wins from the losses, and can appreciate the good he has occasionally done for our values and agenda.
He deserves praise for the selection of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, for fulfilling his promise to slash regulations, and for our withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords. He has largely allowed our Generals to make military decisions (with oversight), that have contributed to the ever-shrinking territory held by ISIS madmen, and despite questionable wording, he has brought Antifa’s violent tendencies to wider national attention. With the increased scrutiny placed upon the ironically named fascist assembly of rioters, it now seems that much of the country is (in baby steps) turning against the mob rule Antifa represents. An honest pundit can openly hold “Never-Trump” status and still agree that the aforementioned policy measures are beneficial to our country.
Ana Navarro, CNN’s token “Republican Strategist” disagrees. Per The New Yorker, “Navarro has called Donald Trump a ‘vile bigot,’ ‘flat out racist,’ ‘jerk,’ ‘swamp thing,’ and ‘crazy orange man with an unidentifiable furry object on his head ranting into the wind’.
Do Navarro’s comments make her a liberal? Well…no. I’ve seen many good conservatives hurl insults at Trump, and then continue to push sound policy.
So how do her policy ideas match up with her supposedly conservative, Republican values?
On the Paris Climate Accords, Navarro seems to have lumped herself in with the leftists. On June 1st, she tweeted, “Trump stupidly leaves Paris Accord Climate Change’s Real Tides rising I live in Miami at sea level Buy His & Hers Snorkeling gear”.
Hmm… that’s just one policy issue though, surely she thinks Antifa is a danger to free speech and other constitutional freedoms, no?
According to The Gateway Pundit, on this point too, she sides with mainstream Democrats. When asked about Antifa’s presence at this month’s deadly Charlottesville rally, she said, “You can’t say this is both sides of violence. What we saw was some white supremacists and then what we saw was some brave people risking their lives and putting themselves in between white supremacists and what they were doing”. We’ve all come together to condemn white supremacists, but leftist violence cannot be ignored.
Ok, well maybe she heavily donates time and money to Republican candidates?
Yeesh… Again, not so much. Lifezette is reporting that Navarro “has given more than $18,000 to Democratic candidates since 1997, including thousands to a New Jersey senator currently on trial for corruption charges”. If that wasn’t bad enough, her campaign contributions to Democrats reportedly include “$1,000 to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the former chair of the Democratic National Committee”.
Despite overwhelming evidence, all of which suggests that Ana Navarro has a lot in common, ideologically, with her leftist colleagues at CNN, she somehow continues to maintain her status as a “GOP” strategist. I suppose that makes sense. In its echo chamber, I’m not sure CNN even knows what a Republican looks like anymore.
